A geometric solid is a three–dimensional shape that is made up of points, edges, faces, and surface area. Examples of geometric solids include cubes, prisms, cylinders, pyramids, and spheres. Geometric solids are studied in geometry, which is the branch of mathematics that deals with the study of shapes, sizes, and relative positions of figures and the properties of space. Geometric solids are important to many fields, including architecture, engineering, design, and art. They are also used in physics, chemistry, and other sciences. Geometric solids can be divided into two categories: polyhedra and non–polyhedra. Polyhedra have flat faces and straight edges, while non–polyhedra have curved faces and edges.
